Art Nouveau is an art movement where elegant decorative ornaments are prominent and curves and plant patterns are frequently used. It can be said that its roots go back to the Arts & Crafts movement centered in Britain. It influenced Europe and America.

The name Art Nouveau comes from a store that opened in Paris in 1896, selling decorative furniture and accessories. The movement gained strength and gained an anti-academic character when artists who were not accepted to the State Salon began to deal with the purchase and sale of such items. The common view of many art and architecture historians is that more than one element gave birth to and influenced Art Nouveau.

The first of these elements was the "Arts and Crafts" (A&C) movement, led by William Morris, which shaped British design in the second half of the 19th century. Against the gloomy and heavy attitude of the Neo-Classic and Neo-Gothic styles that marked the Victorian era, A&C carried the banner of the modest and simple hand-made tradition of the Pre-Renaissance period. The boundaries between craftsman, artist, architect and designer have softened in this movement.
